Adapting to Change: Thriving in the Digital Age through the Right Skills and Lifelong Learning
On Tuesday this week, I had the honour to give a presentation at ExxonMobil, a corporate partner of Corvinus University. My presentation was entitled “Adapting to Change: Thriving in the Digital Age through the Right Skills and Lifelong Learning” and was about the importance of lifelong learning and development due to certain contemporary changes and challenges.
Adapting to change and meeting the challenges of the digital age can only be achieved through the right skills and lifelong learning. During my presentation, I discussed how the exponential rate of technological advancement means that our knowledge can quickly become obsolete and how General Purpose Technology (GPT) such as AI, robotics and biotechnology radically change our world.
I have stressed that in the future, human work will increasingly take a back seat, and repetitive, tedious, easily automated tasks will be done by machines, while exciting tasks that require strategic decisions or human interaction and emotional involvement will continue to be done by us in collaboration with AI.
We need to prepare for this world by learning and adapting, which we can shape with our intentions. The purpose of my presentation was to highlight that we can influence the direction of change ourselves and we can transform our world only if we are willing and capable to learn and adapt.
